Mountcrest University College Founders’ Moot Club has shined at the 2024 Philip C. Jessup
International Law Moot Court Competition (Ghana Qualifying Rounds) in which 10 universities
competed. It was hosted by the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration
(GIMPA) in Accra from February 12 th -16 th , 2024.
The team’s hard work paid off with two prestigious awards namely ‘’The Overall Best Oralist’’
and ‘’The Best and Most Distinguished School in Academic Legal Excellence”.
The other participating universities are University of Ghana, Legon; Kwame Nkrumah University
of Science and Technology (KNUST) Kumasi; Ghana Institute of Management and Public
Administration; University of Professional Studies, Accra; Kings University; Central University;
Winsconsin University; University of Cape Coast and Ghana School of Law.
The KNUST won the competition with Ghana School of Law as first runner-up. The winner and
first runner-up will represent Ghana at the JESSUP 2024 international rounds in Washington,
USA, in April, this year.
The MountCrest team, led by T.K Dzidula-Awudi, president of the Moot Club, showcased
resilience and dedication throughout the competition. Its coach, Emmanuel Twerefoo Agyarko-
Mintah Esq., played a crucial role in preparing the team for success. With support from mentors
like Mr. Michael Ofosu Duodu, a Law lecturer and other legal experts, Mr. Emmanuel
Amoakohene Yeboah Esq. and Mr. Stephen Bainson Esq., the team navigated the complexities
of International Law with confidence.
The team members, Naiza Issifu, Safianu Abdul-Razak, Zulaiha Ibrahim, Ayisha Alhassan,
Issahaku Huzaifah, Derrick Aniglo Blessing, Odamea Amoako, Bernice Sangmortey, and
Victricia Eshun, worked tirelessly to represent Mountcrest University College with distinction.
Despite various hurdles, the team’s determination never wavered.
The period of the competition coincided with the visit to Ghana by Prof. Carl Stychin, Director of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies who was in Accra to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between his institution and MountCrest University College. He accompanied the Rector Ms. Irene Ansa-Asare to visit the MountCrest moot team.
