Mr. Shaibu Muniru, the valedictorian of MountCrest University College’s Graduating Class of 2024, at the weekend urged his colleagues to carry with them the spirit of MountCrest University College by always remembering that they were not just graduates, but were also torchbearers of knowledge and integrity.

Their mission, he said, was to shape the future with such values to empower others as they had been empowered by MountCrest and chart paths that would lead to a better world.

He was speaking at MCU’s 7th Graduation ceremony held at the Assemblies of God Church headquarters in Accra on Saturday, 19th October, 2024. The theme was “Empowering Minds, Charting New Paths: Shaping the Future with Knowledge and Integrity.” In all, there were 86 graduates, three of whom had First Class Honours. The three are Mr. Muniru himself, who won multiple awards, Mr. Daniel Adewu and Mr. Kennedy Affum.

Mr. Muniru observed that the theme for the occasion resonated deeply with the journey they had undertaken at MCU and reminded them that their education had not merely been about the accumulation of knowledge but also about fostering the integrity to use that knowledge wisely.

He said MCU’s Vision “to be a World Class Teaching and Research University, educating for life and addressing the challenges facing contemporary society” had guided their academic journey, inspiring them to think beyond the classroom and engage with the pressing issues of our time. “As graduates, we are now tasked with the responsibility to carry forward this vision, to be ambassadors of this institution’s commitment to excellence, innovation and societal impact.”

‘’At MountCrest we have been fortunate to learn from some of the brightest minds, individuals who have not only educated us but have also inspired us to think critically, act critically, and lead with compassion. Our education here has empowered us to chart new paths, to venture into the unknown with confidence, and to shape a future that is not only brighter but more just and equitable,” he stressed.

Various awards were presented by the Registrar, Ms. Ama Aboagyewaa Akor. Mr. Muniru collected Prizes for the Overall Best Graduating Student, under which comes the B.J. da Rocha Cash Prize, the VCRAC Crabbe Prize and Professor Emeritus W.C Ekow Daniels Prize for Most Promising Legal Educator. He also collected two prizes under the newly established Law Students Union (LSU) Awards in Criminal Law and the Law of Contract. The third LSU Award on Immovable Property Law went to Mr. Robert Carlos Dzelu.

The MCU Founders Award went to Mr. Daniel Adewu and Mr. Kennedy Affum who received cash prizes of Ghc10,000 each as Tuition Fee Support, while the Judge Akua Kuenyehia Award for Overall Best Female Student went to Ms. Patience Akua Owusu.
