Director
Mr. Ansa-Asare, a Lawyer with broad experience in the field of administration, co-founded MountCrest University College (MCU) with his wife, Mrs. Helena Ansa-Asare in 2008.
He is the Master of Chambers of the Law Firm, Ansa-Asare & Co., Hencil Chambers, Accra; and he has been an active legal practitioner since November 1981.
Prior to starting the University, he was Director of Legal Education and Director, Ghana School of Law, from October 2002 to December 2013. Before then he was the most senior lecturer,
equivalent of Deputy Director, at the Law School from 1992 to 2002. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Master of Laws (LLM) degrees from the University of Ghana, and a Qualifying Certificate for Admission to the Ghana Bar from the Ghana School of Law.
<strong>Experiences</strong>
Among the institutions of higher learning that have benefitted from his extensive experience in teaching and research are the University of Ghana, the Rivers State University of Science and Technology in Port Harcourt and the University of Calabar, both in Nigeria.
He was the legal consultant to the Committee of Experts that drew up Ghana’s 1992 Constitution. He has served on various statutory boards, including the General Legal Council; Board of Legal Education; the Legal Aid Board; Boards of Governors of Benkum Senior High School and Mampong-Akuapem Presbyterian Day Secondary School.
Mr. Ansa-Asare is also an entrepreneur who established the Readwide Bookshop, and farms on a commercial scale. Currently he is the Registrar of the Koforidua Diocese of the Anglican Church, within the Province of West Africa.
<strong>Honours</strong>
Among his numerous honours are the United States International Visitor Fellowship in 1992, 1997, 1998 and 2003; the United States Young Leaders of Africa Programme (1990); Canadian International Development Fellowship (1998) and the Sprott Prize, Legon Hall, University of Ghana (1976 and 1977).
His published articles include: “Consumer Protection” 12 RGL 176; “The Law as an Instrument of Trade Policy” 12 RGL; “The Case for a Comprehensive Framework of Consumer Protection in Ghana” 13 & 14 RGL 73; and “Legislative History of the Legal Regime of Price Control in Ghana” (1987) 29 JAL 103.

In his free time, Mr. Ansa-Asare loves interacting with the youth and spending time at the countryside. He enjoys classical, gospel and hi-life music, and never misses an opportunity to watch football or boxing.

She also holds an MBA and an LLM in International Commercial Law from Cardiff University, Wales. Irene is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Bath, England, pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration (Higher Education Management).
Irene was called to the Bar of England and Wales in July 2004 and then to the Ghana Bar in October of the same year. She was the first African woman to practise as a barrister on the Wales and Chester Circuit of the Bar of England and Wales, before returning to Ghana in 2011 to join MountCrest University College (‘MountCrest’), the first private tertiary institution in Ghana to establish a Faculty of Law.
Irene’s contributions to MountCrest has been pivotal. She joined at its inception as the Director of Legal Services and then served as its Deputy Rector for Institutional Advancement, Corporate and International Affairs until her appointment as Rector in 2020, becoming the youngest woman to head a tertiary institution in Ghana.
Among her many achievements, the appointing authorities took note that she had established an extensive network to be able to build bridges and foster innovative linkages with other institutions of higher learning in Ghana, Africa, the Commonwealth and beyond, which was in line with MountCrest’s vision to “become a world-class teaching and research university, educating for life and addressing the challenges facing contemporary society.”
Irene’s expertise produces an impactful blend of academia, administration, and industry practice that bring together the areas of law and governance, business, and education in an innovative and collaborative manner.
She founded Horsham Education Consult (trading as Horsham Consulting), a strategic advisory and consulting firm dedicated to the establishment and sustainable growth of institutions and businesses in the public, private and non-profit sectors.
Ms. Ansa-Asare speaks English, basic French and several Ghanaian languages.
She enjoys travelling and experiencing new cultures, reading, dancing and listening to good music.

He is the Deputy Rector. He is a Public Health Physician Consultant and Health Systems Consultant.
He has a Masters’ degree in Health Policy, Planning and Management from the University of Leeds, UK; MCommH from Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK; BSc. (Human Biology) and MB ChB from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. He is a foundation Fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Among his numerous national assignments was his appointment as Director of the Rural Health Training School, Kintampo and also Director of Health Services, Kintampo District (1989-2001). Under his leadership as Director, Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation at the Ministry of Health (2001-2004), the policy and legal framework for the National Health Insurance Scheme was developed. Subsequently, Dr. Akor was appointed the First Executive Secretary, National Health Insurance Council. Prior to that, he had led in the design of the entire National Health Insurance Scheme and the establishment of 125 District Mutual Health Insurance Schemes in the country.
His involvement with MountCrest University College dates back to its formative years in 2009. When academic work began in 2011, Dr. Akor was appointed Deputy Rector but acted as Rector in the absence of the substantive Rector. At the same time, he was also Dean of the School of Medical and Health Sciences. In August 2018, he was appointed Director of the Quality Assurance Unit.
In June 2021, he was appointed Deputy Rector.
In his leisure periods Dr. Akor enjoys reading (including the Bible), listening to an array of music – country, classicals and gospel.

Ms. Akor holds a Masters’ degree in Social Policy Studies from University of Ghana, and BA. in Sociology and Social Work from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
A passionate and committed university administrator, she joined MountCrest University College in September, 2010. She has been Senior Assistant Registrar, Academic & Student Affairs, and the Acting Registrar for almost four years.
In January 2023, she became the Registrar.
Before joining MountCrest, Ms. Akor worked with Millicom Ghana Limited (formerly Tigo).
During her leisure periods, she enjoys reading, cooking, making new friends and listening to gospel music and hymns.

She attended the University of Liverpool, England; the University of Ghana Medical School; Aburi Girls’ Secondary School; Presbyterian Middle Girls’ Boarding School, Agogo, Ashanti-Akim; and Grey Memorial Primary School, Accra.
Prof has teaching, examinership and administrative experience (local and international) spanning over 40 years. Many of her trained health professionals are now occupying important positions in Ghana and abroad.
Her academic life started at the University of Ghana before she moved to the University of Cape Coast, where she was the Vice Dean at the School of Medical Sciences. Among others, she has been Head of Department, BSc Anaesthesia Programme, School of Anaesthesia and Critical Care, Ridge Hospital, Greater Accra Region; Acting Dean, University of Cape Coast School of Medical Sciences; Head of Department of Anaesthesia, Ghana Medical School; Senior Medical Officer of Health, Tuen Mun Hospital, Hong Kong; Locum Consultant Anaesthetist, Hassleholm Hospital, Sweden; and Locum Senior House Officer, Walton Hospital, Liverpool, England.
Prof Amponsah has served on a number of boards and committees which include the Academic Board, University of Ghana; Board of Ghana Medical School; the Postgraduate & Research Committee, University of Ghana; Committee for drafting the Constitution for Ghana Surgical Society; elected to the Council of the Ghana Surgical Research Society; and Vice-President of the University of Ghana Medical School Alumni Association.
A Fellow of both the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) and the West African College of Surgeons, Prof Amponsah is a Foundation Fellow of the Ghana College of Physicans and Surgeons and also belongs to the Royal College of Anaesthetists, United Kingdom; West African Congress of Societies of Anaesthesiologists; and the Ghana Surgical Research Society.
She has a number of scientific publications to her credit. Among them: Blood Sugar Concentrations in Children Undergoing Surgery under General Anaesthesia (West African Journal of Medicine); Perioperative Cardiac Monitoring (African Journal of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care); and Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting in Children in Tuen Mun Hospital (African Journal of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care).
Hobbies: Prof Amponsah likes reading any literature that is interesting, especially ones bothering on medicine. She also enjoys listening to music and dancing, especially in Church.

In her professional experiences, she was Ag. Head, Department of Adult Health, School of Nursing, Legon; Midwifery Tutor, Midwifery Training School, Korle-Bu; Ward Sister, Achimota Hospital; Staff Nurse/Midwife, Komfo Anokye Hospital, Kumasi.
Prof. Oware-Gyekye, in her consultancy work, has since 2006 worked with the National Accreditation Board now Ghana Tertiary Education Commission; the UNFPA in the development of Advanced Curriculum for the Midwifery Training School, Health Institute in Kigali, Rwanda; UNFPA in National Needs Assessment for Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health in Eritrea; UNFPA in Mid-Term Review of UNFPA Country Programme in Ghana and CARDS Consult for the development on manual on environmental sanitation.
She has authored and co-authored many publications. Among her personal ones are: Impact and Benefits of Migration (2014) and Pain Management: The Role of the Nurse (2008), both published in the West African Journal of Nursing; Adolescent Health and Development (2005), WHO Office, Ghana pp. 20-22 / 45-55; and Exploitation of working Children in Ghana, NEDUB, Journal of Nurse Educators, Vol.4, 9-11.
Prof. Oware-Gyekye received the ICN/3M International Fellowship Award in November 1992.

Dr. Kofi Ahmed
Dr. Ahmed holds a Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Teheran, MB.Ch.B from the University of Ghana Medical School; an MBA from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and a number of Diplomas. He has worked
in private consultation in African countries like Nigeria, Ethiopia, Congo, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. He has also worked as International Public Health Trainee in Geneva with the WHO.
Dr. Ahmed has authored and co-authored about eight publications. Among them are “Epidemiology of Malaria in Ghana. GMS Vol.23” and “1986 African Immunisation “An experience from Ghana”.
He has been a member of the Governing Body of the Center for Research into Plant Medicine; the National Population Council and a member of Ghana’s delegations to numerous health conferences around the world.

As a staff of the 37 Military Hospital Nurses Training College in Accra, variably she was Principal, Deputy Principal and Nurse Educator. Her subjects were Psychology, Sociology, Obstetric Nursing, Nursing Ethics and Research Techniques.
She retired from the Military in June 2015 having served as Military Observer with the African Union Mission in Sudan for one year; Acting Adjutant of the Military Hospital in Accra; Contingent Commander, 10<sup>th</sup> Anniversary (31<sup>st</sup> December Revolution) 1991 and Contingent Commander, 50<sup>th</sup> Anniversary (37 Military Hospital) Parade at Military Hospital grounds.

Wellington holds MA in Education Administration, University of Cape Coast; MSc. in Midwifery, University of Surrey, United Kingdom; FWACN from West Africa College of Nursing; Diploma in Health Systems Management, Galilee College, Israel; Diploma in Nursing, University of Ghana, Legon; RM, Midwifery Training School, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi; SRN, Agogo Nurses Training College and GCE O’ Level from Wesley Girls High School, Cape Coast.
Before entering the Military, she was a Nurse Educator (Midwifery) at Agogo Nurses Training College and Snr. Staff Nurse, Agogo Hospital.
Her association with MountCrest began in September 2015, when she accepted the offer of appointment as Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Nursing, teaching courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Among her achievements was the setting up of a Midwifery Training School for the Military Hospital and successfully turning out six groups of qualified midwives with a performance of 100% at licensure examinations; re-introduction of training of civilian nurses at 37 NTC; facilitation of the construction of two ‘Prefab’ classroom units for 37 NTC and as Chief Examiner for the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Col. Wellington, a Fellow of the West African College of Nursing and Foundation Fellow of the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives, is also a Lay Preacher of the Methodist Church; a Church Choir Executive Member; Church Secretary and Patron of the Boys and Girls Brigade and Youth Fellowship of Military Hospital Methodist/Presbyterian Church.
She enjoys dancing, listening to music of all kinds, watching movies, creatively writing poems and prose and playing computer games.

Ms. Asiedu has travelled extensively covering local and international assignments such as the Fourth World Women’s Conference organized by the United Nations in 1995 in Beijing, China; African Union Summits and presidential state visits in many parts of Africa, and the Non-Aligned Movement’s Summit in Belgrade (capital of former Yugoslavia). In 2002, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) contracted her to be on a Media Team that published the daily newspaper, ‘’ADF News” for the Third African Development Forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Among her many other experiences are her attachment to the Cambridge Evening News in England in 1997; participation in a UNESCO-sponsored Pan African Women’s Conference in Zanzibar, Tanzania, where she presented a paper on “Ghanaian Women and the Peace Process” and a UNDP-sponsored Workshop in Mali, on the “Negative Portrayal of Africa by the International Media”.
In 2004, the American Biographical Institute (ABI) declared her “Woman of the Year for Outstanding Accomplishments and Contributions to Society.” It also declared her “A great Woman of the 21st Century’’, published in the ABI’s 2004/5 Edition of “Great Women of the 21st Century” – a publication for leading universities and libraries around the world. In 2005, the United Cultural Convention, USA, gave her the ‘’International Peace Prize for Outstanding Personal achievements to the Good of Society”.
Among her many associations, Ms. Asiedu is a Harry Brittain Fellow, England (the Commonwealth Press Union’s prestigious award for Journalists). She is also a member of the American Biographical Institute’s Women’s Advisory Board and a Patron of the Cancer Society of Ghana.
