Dr. Kofi Ahmed

He is the Head of Public Health, School of Medicine and Health Sciences at MountCrest. He joined MCU in 2014 as Associate Professor. Prior to that he was for seven years, Acting Chief Medical Officer, Ministry of Health; four years as Director of the Directorate of Onchocerciasis Control, where he was responsible for carrying out surveys and extensive research for the Onchocerciasis Control Programme in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO). He was also Director of Public Health, Ministry of Health.

Experience & Activities

Dr. Ahmed holds a Masters in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Teheran, MB.Ch.B from the University of Ghana Medical School; an MBA from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and a number of Diplomas. He has worked
in private consultation in African countries like Nigeria, Ethiopia, Congo, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. He has also worked as International Public Health Trainee in Geneva with the WHO.

Dr. Ahmed has authored and co-authored about eight publications. Among them are “Epidemiology of Malaria in Ghana. GMS Vol.23” and “1986 African Immunisation “An experience from Ghana”.
He has been a member of the Governing Body of the Center for Research into Plant Medicine; the National Population Council and a member of Ghana’s delegations to numerous health conferences around the world.
