Prof. (Mrs.) Faustina Oware-Gyekye

Professor of Midwifery & Head of Department
She is Associate Professor of Midwifery and Head, Department of Midwifery. She joined the MountCrest family in 2015. She holds a Master of Philosophy (Medical Geography) from University of Ghana (1999); Post Graduate Certificate in Leadership & Management, Tuffs University, Medford, USA (1999); BA (Hons) in Nursing with Psychology (1994); Diploma in Nursing Education (Midwifery Option), University of Ghana (1975); Ward Management Certificate, University of Ghana (1970); Ghana Midwives Board Certificate, (1970); Ghana State Registered Nurse Certificate (1967) and West African School Certificate (1963).

Experience & Activities

In her professional experiences, she was Ag. Head, Department of Adult Health, School of Nursing, Legon; Midwifery Tutor, Midwifery Training School, Korle-Bu; Ward Sister, Achimota Hospital; Staff Nurse/Midwife, Komfo Anokye Hospital, Kumasi.
Prof. Oware-Gyekye, in her consultancy work, has since 2006 worked with the National Accreditation Board now Ghana Tertiary Education Commission; the UNFPA in the development of Advanced Curriculum for the Midwifery Training School, Health Institute in Kigali, Rwanda; UNFPA in National Needs Assessment for Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health in Eritrea; UNFPA in Mid-Term Review of UNFPA Country Programme in Ghana and CARDS Consult for the development on manual on environmental sanitation.
She has authored and co-authored many publications. Among her personal ones are: Impact and Benefits of Migration (2014) and Pain Management: The Role of the Nurse (2008), both published in the West African Journal of Nursing; Adolescent Health and Development (2005), WHO Office, Ghana pp. 20-22 / 45-55; and Exploitation of working Children in Ghana, NEDUB, Journal of Nurse Educators, Vol.4, 9-11.
Prof. Oware-Gyekye received the ICN/3M International Fellowship Award in November 1992.
In her spare time, she loves to read and attend to her garden.
